What Is Wordpress ?
WordPress is an open source content management system (CMS) written using PHP and MYSQL. It often used as a blog publishing application
and being used more and more to develop non blog type websites. Wordpress is used by over 300 of the 10,000 biggest websites, WordPress
is the most popular blog software in use today
WordPress works using a templating system, which includes plugins and widgets that can be rearranged without editing PHP or HTML code. These widgets and plugins allow hundreds of different features and facilities to be quickly added to Wordpress to extend its fuctionality way beyond the features provided by the base install. Examples of such plugins and widgets include fully featured forums, contact forms, photo galleries, tag clouds, shopping carts etc.
The themes feature allows the look and functionality of the website to be changed instantly. There are thousands of free and commercial themes available which can be quickly installed to change the design of the Wordpress website.
WordPress also includes
- integrated link management
- a search engine-friendly, clean permalink structure
- the ability to assign nested, multiple categories to articles
- support for tagging of posts and articles
WordPress also supports the Trackback and Pingback standards for displaying links to other sites that have themselves linked to a post or article.
